The DVR and You
The DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is the heart of any surveillance system, and it can be the apple in your eye or the devil at your door depending on your requirements. We will go over a few DVR basics to help you pick out the perfect one for your cctv system.
VCRs Are Gone – Get Used To It
For a quarter of a century VCRs were THE solution when it came to surveillance video recording. They provided features such as daisy chaining, time lapse recording, and auto rewind. All of these features were used to extend a VCRs life and prolong the use of VHS tapes. When DVRs first came out, they weren't quite as efficient as a VCR. In fact it took several years and the advancement of hard drive technologies before the DVR could truly compete with the VCR. Nowadays a VCR can't hold a candle to the capabilities of a digital video recorder.
If you still have a VCR in your surveillance system; you need to get used to the fact that it is an obsolete technology, and when the time comes it will be a DVR taking its place; this isn't a reason to panic though. DVRs have become quite affordable and include a plethora of features that have even make the need for quads and multiplexers close to obsolete.
How Long Can A DVR Record For
The most frequently asked question when purchasing a DVR is how long it can record for. This question is a tricky one as it is very dependent on a few factors. Settings on your DVR such as motion recording, resolution, and the number of cameras can all play a roll in this equation. Furthermore the size of your hard drive is a critical factor in determining how much video you can store. Suffice it to say that the recording capabilities of a DVR are very versatile and are dependent on your particular surveillance system. In fact recording lengths can range from a day worth of video to 3 months or more.
Resolution – High Vs. Low
It is generally a good rule to always set your DVR to record your video at the highest resolution possible. The reason for this is because recognizing things such as vehicle license plates, people, or other important occurrences will be much easier.
With new compression rates advancing all the time DVRs are now usually able to record higher resolutions at higher frame rates as well; so the general tradeoff between these two is rapidly diminishing. In the end if you want the best quality evidence when the time comes; keep your DVR at a high resolution.
With this bit of knowledge it is recommended that you consult with a surveillance equipment dealer before making your purchase. This way you can find the perfect DVR for your surveillance system.

How to hook a DVR Cable box to a DVD Recorder?
I need to figure out how to hook my cable box that has a built in DVR to an external DVD Recorder. I have a news program on the DVR box that I need to burn to DVD or at east find some way to get it off of the DVR. Please help!
The same as if it were a non DVR cable box, except you have to cue up the recording to play to the DVD recorder.

DVD player can't read dvd?
I have a DYD2200 DVD player. It started to read dvd's weakly as if they were filthy, but they weren't. Now it doesn't read anything anymore. The player is 2 months aged. Should I clean it?
Dvd Player problem?
I popped in a movie and it have spanish subtitles. There was no menu on this dvd, it a short time ago automatically played after the previews. Is the spanish subtitles an issue with the dvd itself or my dvd player? Sometimes when I interval a movie for a while, and come back to it, it have subtitles on it for some reason, but english. I don't enjoy a remote for my dvd player. How do I fix these spanish subtitles? It is annoying!
DVD Recorder interview?
Hello everyone well my VHS cassette player had died and I do not want to catch another one. I have no experiance near DVD Recorders so I do not know what to look for and therefore I hope for some minister to. I basically want to know how to record a movie, tv show, and pick up them on disc. Is this possible? I work weird hours so I miss profoundly of my favorite shows and also some great sports games. Plus sometimes I'd like to put aside it and be able to view a month, two months, or so down the line. Thats the primary reason I am looking at this. I instinctively do not like the antiquated tapes as they are clunky and I don't see why I should seize another one to record. Thanks for adjectives replies in mortgage!

Where do I get DVD recorder so I can hook up my consoles to it to record me playing? Are they already contained by the DVD player?
DVD+R question?
My computer cannot "see" DVD+R disks but can see DVD-R disks. It can write to +R disks and these can then be played on a DVD player. I can also play such DVDs on my computer if I use Cyberlinks Power DVD but not Windows Media. What give?

I only brought eurovox Max 2 months ago and its bn working best until today. I can only procure BBC1,2,3,4 ITV, ITV2, Five, CH4, Its jst says please dally, Code being updated. Nothing happen. Everything is "tuner free"?
I have expanded cable contained by my area and I do not hold a set top box. I need a DVD Recorder/VHS combo specifically NOT "tuner free", but I cannot find one any place. My cable company said I was fine minus a set top box to get TV, so why can I no longer buy a recorder lacking having one?

HD movies ,, i do not want to convert them ,because i own a ps3 HD player?
