How to Use a Service Manual
Conducting repair or customization work on your car requires detailed information that you can find only in the appropriate service manual. While the technical details in a manual do not make for engaging reading, you still need to consult the document if you don't want to worsen the damage or malfunction of your vehicle.
The manual in your hands might be the very same document that came with the car when you bought it, or it can be one that is provided by a second party publisher. You must remember that the manual exists to ensure your safety while you perform necessary repairs on your vehicles, so make sure that you follow the step-by-step instructions carefully.
Here are a few tips to observe as you consult service manual and perform a repair job on your vehicle:
1. Wear the appropriate protective clothing and gear to prevent bodily harm. This may include safety masks, eye goggles, ear muffs, rubber gloves and work overalls, among others. Using the right safety gear and equipment helps to protect not just yourself but others as well.
2. Make sure that you have all the necessary tools and materials on hand. You will be able to finish the job faster if you don't have to make frequent trips to the hardware store to buy the things you need. You can make an initial list of necessary tools before you start the repair work so that you don't miss out anything.
3. Locate the correct section for the type of repair you are planning to do. You can look at the table of contents, section listing or topic index to help you know what you need to prepare for the job.
4. Follow the procedures as outlined in the manual. Avoid making improvisations or taking shortcuts when you do repairs. Even professional technicians follow the instructions closely, so there is even more reason for you as an amateur to stick to them.
5. Study the diagrams and procedures before you begin. Spend some time with the photographs and diagrams so that you know exactly what you have to do when you dissemble the component parts. Mark the relevant pages with a tab so you can consult the manual as you go along.
6. Clean up properly after you work. Make sure that you keep away all the tools, equipment and materials to eliminate any hazard to yourself and others. Wipe away any liquid spills such as engine oil or brake fluid. Knowing where you put all the tools will help you locate them again when you need to perform additional repairs in the future.
7. Keep pets and children away from your work area. You don't want kids or pets running around and getting injured as you perform the repair. You will also be able to focus more on the task at hand when you have a worry-free environment to work in.
8. Keep the manual in a safe place after you work so you know where to find it next time you need to repair your vehicle.

How to find an outboard service manual online
Looking for a Force Outboard manual or any other service manual for your outboard? Then the easiest way to search is online. A simple search throws up so many options for a Force Outboard Manual. So which one do you choose?
A service manual has to provide clear and concise information that can be understood both by a professional as well as an amateur. A Force Outboard manual shouldn't be an overall view of the marine engine. Instead a really good one, like the service manual published by Clymer or Seloc categorizes outboard engine manuals according to the year of manufacture, engine horsepower and whether it's a two-stroke or four-stroke motor.
Such an approach makes it easier for the Force outboard owner to choose the service manual based on the year of manufacture & the model no. Each outboard engine service manual will deal with the easiest to the most difficult repair jobs & tasks in an easy-to-understand format & step-by-step instructions. These are accompanied by photographs & diagrams. Maintenance and troubleshooting are discussed in detailed & they come with clearly illustrated wiring diagrams.
Typically, an outboard service manual features chapters on sections such as the cooling system, engine specifications, drive shaft, fuel system, ignition, electrical systems, gear case, timing, trim, tilt, torque specifications and tune-up. A Force outboard manual will also discuss how to storage/winterize your marine engine. Of course, most really good service manuals deal with what's mentioned above. But they're never in-depth analysis. So an amateur wouldn't find such outboard service manuals useful.
You could purchase either a printed service manual or a subscription to an online service manual. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. A printed version of the Force outboard manual is a collector's item & can even be a part of a marine engine display. An online service manual can only be accessed when there's an internet connection. This may not be always possible, when the boat's out on the water. With an online subscription for a service manual, you get a dealer locator for parts and service based on zip code.
