HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is the highlight in today's electronic market. HDMI supports two-way communication between the video source and the DTV, enabling new functionalities, such as automatic configuration and one touch play.
HDMI is constantly evolving to meet the needs of the marketplace. HDMI does not require manufacturers to implement everything that HDMI can do. HDMI provides capabilities that allow the manufacturer to choose features make sense for its product line. HDMI technology has been designed to use standard copper cable construction at long lengths. HDMI specifies the required performance of a cable but does not specify a maximum cable length.

I've researched myself online. Maybe I'm looking too hard. I starting to confuse myself. Any advise you can give is more than appreciated. Thank you in advance.
"Rug" has provided much of the criteria necessary in determining what a "good" HDTV should provide. Double HDMI inputs are a must if you're going to use a Hi-DEf or upconverting DVD player -and- a second is necessary for your best HDTV broadcast input.
The "best" is a matter of opinion -but- for my money (a lot of it to be sure) I am Sony Fan, and don't think you can buy a better set.
Aside from my opinion, Sony is generally (and consistantly0 rated #1 by many unbiased Consumer Review groups.
At the very least, I would use Sony as a benchmark when comparing other brands, some of which are excellent. Aside from Sony, have a look at Toshiba, Sharp Aquos, and other "top tier" sets.
And............let your eyes and your budget be the deciding factor.

How does HDMI work?
A full HD output screen has 1080 lines of pixels. These pixels are scanned one after the other repeatedly. This is known as progressive scanning and can be done only when the image data is transferred very quickly. The old audio-video leads and SCART cables cannot transmit all this data. The old dual lead cables, which had separate leads for sound and picture, can carry only analogue signals. Hence the digital data had to be first converted into analogue and then converted back to digital on reception by the output device. This time lag can cause your picture quality to reduce and can also introduce noise.
