Former Gator basketball player faces DUI charges
GAINESVILLE, Florida – A former Florida Gator basketball player is facing DUI charges.
According to authorities, 23-year-old Dan Werner is in danger of facing charges of driving under the influence. Werner was stopped by officers because he was driving with his high beams on and had a tail light out.
When the officer questioned him, Werner said that he was driving because his girlfriend had consumed too much alcohol and was intoxicated.
However, authorities say that Werner also smelled of alcohol and had watery, bloodshot eyes. He confessed to having consumed two alcoholic beverages.
Werner was then issued a field sobriety test which he performed poorly on. He also blew 0.065 and 0.070 on a breathalyzer test. However, according to state law, he was not over the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Werner was released from jail on his own recognizance on Tuesday.
