Does FIDM financial aid cover independent housing?

i want to attend FIDM in LA but i would like independent housing and i'd already have a roommate willing to do so with me. would the financial aid cover independent housing?

Allison:

As with all Federal Student Aid eligible programs, FIDM bases your financial aid need on the entire Cost of Attendance, which includes tuition and fees, room and board, textbooks, school supplies and a very modest amount of personal spending money (for things like gas to get back and forth to school and a computer). This means that your housing expense IS included in your school's analysis of how much you'll NEED to afford school.

However - as every financial aid recipient knows, there's a big difference between what you "need" and what you "get". Very few schools are able to satisfy 100% of every students' financial aid need, and I can assure you that FIDM is not one of them.

If you're wondering "Will I get enough financial aid to pay for all of my classes and a cool place to live, too?", then the answer is "no". If you're fortunate, you'll receive enough financial aid (loans and grants) to pay for your courses and still have some "overage" money left over that you can choose to apply towards your housing expenses.

The ultimate determinates are your financial circumstances, as determined by the FAFSA application that you'll need to submit in order to be considered for any forms of financial aid.

Remember, though - financial aid doesn't pay for you to go to school. That's why it's called financial "aid" - as in assistance.

For more information on your likely aid package, the best resource will be the FIDM financial aid office, once they have had an opportunity to review your FAFSA results.

Good luck!

Compare House Insurance Quotes Online to Get the Best Rate

The best way to get the best house insurance quotes is to compare rates from different companies. And the easiest way to do that is online. Here's how ...

House Insurance Coverage

Before you go shopping for house insurance you should know what's covered:

House Structure - Structural coverage pays for damages to you home from fire, smoke, lightning, theft, vandalism, and weather damage (except floods).

Your house insurance policy should cover the cost of rebuilding your home and should not be based on your home's appraised value. You can ask a builder what the square-foot rebuilding costs are in your area then multiply that figure by your home's square footage to get a cost estimate.

You can save money on your premium by raising your deductible. Increasing it from $250 to $1,000 will save you up to 25%.

Personal Property - You and your family's personal possessions are covered by personal property coverage. Most insurance company's cover your possessions for half of what your home is insured for.

Expensive items like jewelry, furs, and collections may only be partially covered so you'll have to purchase additional insurance in the form of a rider to cover them.

Liability - Liability coverage pays for damage done to others and their property, by you or your family. It can get extremely expensive if you're sued, so you want to have enough liability insurance to cover all your assets.

It only costs an average of $50 a year to increase your liability coverage from $100,000 to $500,000, and it may be well worth it if you have to go to court.
