How to good use Dell E1505 adapter by yourself

The Dell  E1505 AC adapter

Dell Inspiron E1505 AC Adapter 90W 19.5V 4.62A Description:
Input: AC100-240V (worldwide use)
Output: DC19.5V 4.62A
Power: 90W
Connecter size:
Internal Diameter: 5.0mm
External Diameter: 7.4mm
With central pin inside

This part, like the batteries, is an essential element of your machine and is also the cause of a great number of breakdowns. Indeed, one of the elements most fragile of your laptop is the AC connector, i.e. the connector female in which comes to plug in the plug of your Dell  E1505 AC adapter.

The repetition of these plug in and sometimes their useless violence ends regularly up tearing off the female connector of the motherboard.

That often occurs by stage, initially light poor contact, then as you move the cable in all the directions to find the current, the connector is torn off definitively, or the produced sparks roast the motherboard.

An adapter in bad condition (stripped cable, broken case repaired with tape…) is often the cause of a fatal electric problem to the motherboard of your laptop. To avoid that you just have to purchase a new AC adapter (genuine), it is always less expensive than a repair or a swapping of the motherboard.

About the compatible Dell E1505 adapter

To try to save some dollars (whereas often the genuine adapters are not much more expensive) or simply because their retailer does not propose a genuine adapter, much buy “compatible” adapters.

Let me be frank, for repairers these adapters are a blessing! Their male connector, relatively adapted to the socket of the laptop, tears off more often than others the females connectors.

Their voltage and their amperage more or less close to the needs for your laptops and a sometimes irregular flow, even straightforwardly random, and their annoying tendency “to kill the fuses” by at the same time roasting your motherboard and other power cards, are an important source of occupation for the technicians.

The failure rate, properly incredible, due, in an unquestionable or probable way, with these adapters makes that I dis-advise them formally. I am the first to propose to use compatible parts when they are less expensive and as powerful as the original parts. But for the AC adapters I advise prudence

SATA HD using external USB connector adapter not functioning?

I have removed a Seagate 400 GB SATA HD that my Asus MB kept saying was going bad. It seemed to function fine but I removed it, hooked it up with an SATA to USB external adaptor, the computer seems to detect the new hardware as a usb mass storage device but it doesn't appear in My Computer or in Windows explorer. Adapter instructions say a driver in not required with XP. Any thoughts?

Right click My Computer, Manage, Disk Management. The drive should show up as a Removable Disk.

Good Luck

Battery Won't Charge at All

If your computer runs normally on the AC adapter, but the battery won't charge, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the Battery and Connections:

    1. Remove the battery from the system.

      How to remove the battery

    2. Look at the connectors in the bay and on the battery for signs of physical damage.

    3. Check the battery charge by pressing the status button or image on the battery near the LED's.

      Note:
The lights indicate the current amount of charge on the battery. If all the LED's come on when you press the button, the battery is fully charged. If fewer lights are lit, then the battery is partially charged. If any lights flash, or blink, there could be a problem with the battery.

Consult the Tell Me How guide for more information on battery LED's:

Where to find the Dell Tell Me How and User's Guides

    4. Reinsert the battery; push until it locks into place and the latch snaps back to the locked position.

  2. Swap Bays or Try A Second Computer:

    • Some systems can run with the battery in either bay. Try swapping bays if you have one of these systems.

Click here to see a list of systems that can use the battery in either bay

    • If you have access to a second computer like your own, try to charge your battery in that system.
  3. Flash the BIOS:

Flashing the BIOS can correct many hardware issues.

    How to Flash the BIOS

  4. Run the Recalibration Utility if Your System has One:

This utility runs the battery all the way down and then recharges it completely. The process takes several hours so it is best to run it overnight. Use only the recalibration program specified for your system. Using any other program could void your warranty!

    • Latitude LM, Inspiron 3000 and Inspiron 3200 systems use this recalibration program:

    • Inspiron 5000, Inspiron 7000, and Inspiron 7500 systems use this program:

    • Latitude LS, Latitude L400, Latitude X200, and Inspiron 2100 enable a recalibration option on the Power page of the BIOS Setup Program:

        How to Enable Battery Recalibration

  5. Try to charge a second battery like your own if possible.

    • If the second battery won't charge, the problem may be caused by the charging system in your computer.
  6. If the battery still won't charge after you have done this troubleshooting, please [Reply] to this message and be sure to include the following information:

    Company name (if applicable):
    Owners Full name:
    System service tag:
Physical address (No PO boxes, include city, state and zip code):

Battery Won't Hold a Charge

If your computer battery is not lasting as long as it used to, try the following troubleshooting steps.

  1. Boot into the BIOS Setup and let the battery run down.

If the battery runs down just as quickly when it is simply accessing the BIOS as when it is actively running Windows, the cause is probably not Windows' configuration or the way you use your computer. If the battery lasts much longer, you may want to follow the suggestions in this Dell Knowledge Base article FA1011122 at this link:

Factors that may cause a battery to run down quickly

  2. Reset the BIOS Factory Defaults.

      How to Reset a Latitude

  3. Flash the System BIOS.

    • Latitude LS, Latitude L400, Latitude X200, and Inspiron 2100 systems enable a recalibration option on the Power page of the BIOS Setup Program :

        How to Enable Battery Recalibration

  5. Try a second battery if possible.

    • If the second battery has the same short life as the first, there may be a problem with something besides the battery.

AC Adapter Doesn't Work

  1. Verify that the AC adapter brick is receiving power.
    • Shut down the computer and unplug the adapter from the system first and then from the power socket. Wait 5 seconds.
    • Plug the adapter directly into the wall socket, bypassing surge protectors, UPS units, or extension cords. The adapter LED should produce a steady green light.
    • If you do not get a green light, try the adapter in another wall outlet in another room or verify that the first outlet works with a lamp or hairdryer.
    • You can also isolate the power problem to a bad adapter by swapping it out with a second adapter - such as one for use with the port replicator.
  2. If the adapter LED lights, check the computer for bad connections.
    • Examine the system power socket to be sure it does not have any bent, missing, or pushed-in pins.
    • Plug the adapter connector directly into the computer, bypassing surge protectors, extension cords, etc. Be sure that the adapter connector fits tightly into the computer's power socket.
  3. If you have access to another computer like yours, try your adapter on it or its adapter on your computer.
  4. If your computer is still under warranty and the AC adapter does not respond to troubleshooting, please [Reply] to this message, being sure to include the following information:

Company name (if applicable):
Owners Full name:
System service tag:
Physical address (No PO boxes, include city, state and zip code):
Telephone number (with area code):
A detailed description of your troubleshooting (step numbers will mean nothing to the assisting technician):

If your computer is no longer under warranty and the AC adapter does not respond to troubleshooting, you may purchase a new AC adapter from Dell.

Warranty on a Dell Laptop Battery

Because portable system batteries contain chemicals that degrade over time, reducing their ability to hold a charge, they are considered to be consumable items like printer cartridges rather than permanent system components. For this reason Dell warrants the batteries for one year after the original purchase date of the system regardless of the warranty expiration date on the system itself.

  • If your battery is still under warranty, please [Reply] to this message and send us the following:

    Company name (if applicable):
    Owners Full name:
    System service tag:
Physical address (No PO boxes, include city, state and zip code):
